Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical orthodontics is a combination of traditional orthodontics (braces) to straighten the teeth and then a surgical procedure to align the jaws for proper facial balance and harmony. Because an adult's facial bones are no longer growing, certain conditions cannot be corrected with only braces. This is also true of teenagers that have completed their facial growth. There can be very dramatic facial changes and bite changes with a combined approach of jaw surgery and orthodontic treatment for people that elect to have this type of therapy. There is close collaboration between the orthodontist and the oral surgeon to optimize the result.
